Over FORTY years experience
I began playing the oboe at age 11 and quickly fell in love with it’s unique sound. In sixth grade, I played Amahl and the Night Visitors, and in high school, performed with the Boston Youth Orchestra, touring Europe and the Middle East.
I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree In oboe performance from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. At SUNYSB, I studied with Stephen Taylor. I also completed a Master of Music Degree in Oboe Performance at SUNY Stony Brook, where I studied with Ronald Roseman. I received my BA from Sarah Lawrence College where I also studied with Ronald Roseman. During my freshman and sophomore years, I attended Amherst College where I studied a variety of subjects in addition to music.
I have extensive professional experience with a wide range of groups, including the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and Choir of Sacred Music, the Bach Aria Group, and Lazar Gosman’s Tschaikovsky Orchestra. I was a founding member of the Phoenix Trio (oboe, violin, cello) and the Constelation Trio (flute, oboe, guitar). For over forty years, I was a member of the chamber group, North Shore Pro Musica. I’m also a certified Music For People improvisation workshop leader, and have recorded and performed with the grammy award winning cellist, David Darling. I enjoy practicing Tai Chi and other forms of meditation.
In 2023, my wife and I moved from Long Island to West Stockbridge, MA in the Berkshires, where I’m performing with several groups and continuing to teach.
