Learn Oboe from a Doctor of Musical Arts
I started my journey with the oboe many years ago, inspired by a love of music and the sound of the instrument. Over the years, I earned my Doctor of Musical Arts degree. My experience includes extensive performing and teaching.
My teaching approach focuses on helping students to develop excellent technique and to enjoy making music. Sharing what I have learned as an oboist is something I truly value.
Common Questions
I have played and taught the oboe for over forty years. I’ve performed professionally with orchestras, chamber music groups, and given solo concerts. I’ve played improvised pieces as well as written compositions.
I offer both in-person and online oboe lessons.
Most of my students are beginners and intermediate levels. A few students are advanced.
I focus on learning music you enjoy and mix in games and creative activities to keep things fresh. I balance technique with fun, so lessons are interesting and you stay excited to play the oboe.
You need an oboe to get started. I can help you figure out the best options for renting, or buying an oboe when you’re ready. Many schools have an oboe available for a student who wants to start playing.
